Cookie Policy

Which cookies and browser storage MossImage uses, what they do and how to control them

Last updated: October 20, 2026

This Cookie Policy explains which cookies and similar technologies MossImage uses at mossimage.pro, what they do and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy.

1. What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser. Cookies let a site remember you between page loads: for example, that you are signed in, or that you prefer dark mode. Some cookies are deleted when you close the browser ("session cookies"); others stay for a set period ("persistent cookies"). Cookies set by the site you are visiting are "first-party"; cookies set by another domain are "third-party".

Browsers also offer other kinds of storage, such as localStorage, which works like a cookie but is never sent to the server. We use it for one small preference, described below. In this policy, "cookies" includes these similar technologies.

2. Our approach

MossImage keeps cookies to a minimum:

  • We use strictly necessary cookies to make the site work. These cannot be switched off without breaking sign-in or your preferences.
  • We may use an analytics tool to understand how the site is used. Where that tool sets cookies, we describe them below.
  • We use no advertising or tracking cookies and do not share cookie data with advertising networks.

3. Strictly necessary cookies and storage

ItemTypeWhat it doesDuration
Session / authentication cookieFirst-party cookieKeeps you signed in after you log in with email and password or Google, and protects your account against cross-site request forgery. Set by our authentication system (Better Auth).Until you sign out or the session expires
Locale cookieFirst-party cookieRemembers the language you chose (English or Chinese) so pages load in the right language.Persistent
Theme preferenceFirst-party cookieRemembers whether you chose the light, dark or system theme.Persistent
Top-banner dismissallocalStorageRemembers that you closed the announcement banner at the top of the page so it does not reappear. Never sent to our server.Until you clear site data

These items do not track you across other websites and are not used for advertising. Because they are necessary for the site to function, we do not ask for consent before setting them.

4. Analytics tools that may be used

We may use one of the following tools to measure traffic and understand which features are used. We will keep this section current so you always know which tool is active.

Plausible Analytics. Privacy-focused and cookieless. It does not set any cookies or store identifiers in your browser. It counts page views using a daily-rotating hash that cannot be used to identify you.

Umami. Also cookieless by default. Like Plausible, it does not store cookies or persistent identifiers in your browser.

Google Analytics. If enabled, it sets first-party cookies such as _ga (distinguishes visitors, up to 2 years) and _ga_<ID> (keeps session state for a property, up to 2 years). These cookies contain a random client ID, not your name or email. We would configure Google Analytics without advertising features.

Microsoft Clarity. If enabled, it records how visitors interact with pages (clicks, scrolling, session replays and heatmaps) and sets cookies such as _clck (stores a user ID and preferences, up to 1 year) and _clsk (links page views within one session, 1 day). Clarity masks text you type into forms by default.

If we enable Google Analytics or Microsoft Clarity, we will ask for your consent before setting their cookies where the law requires it, and you can withdraw consent at any time using the browser controls in section 7.

5. Third-party services that may set cookies

Some features rely on other companies' services. When those features load, the provider may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy:

  • Stripe (payments). During checkout Stripe may set cookies such as __stripe_mid and __stripe_sid to detect fraud and keep the checkout session working. These are necessary for payment to work.
  • Google (sign-in). When you choose "Sign in with Google", you are taken to Google's own pages, which use Google's cookies. We do not control those cookies.
  • Crisp (support chat, optional). If the chat widget is enabled, Crisp sets cookies such as crisp-client/session/* so that your conversation continues as you move between pages.

6. Advertising cookies

We do not use advertising cookies, remarketing pixels or social-media tracking pixels. We do not sell personal data collected through cookies.

7. How to control cookies

In MossImage. Signing out removes the session cookie. Changing the language or theme updates the corresponding cookie. Clearing site data in your browser removes everything, including the banner preference.

In your browser. All major browsers let you view, block and delete cookies:

  • Chrome: Settings, then Privacy and security, then Third-party cookies or Site settings, then Cookies.
  • Firefox: Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Cookies and Site Data.
  • Safari on macOS: Settings, then Privacy, then Manage Website Data. On iPhone and iPad: Settings, then Safari, then Block All Cookies.
  • Edge: Settings, then Cookies and site permissions, then Manage and delete cookies and site data.

You can also use a private or incognito window so that cookies are discarded when you close it, or install a browser extension that blocks analytics scripts.

What happens if you block cookies. If you block strictly necessary cookies, you will not be able to stay signed in, and your language and theme choices will not be remembered. Blocking analytics cookies has no effect on the features available to you.

Opt-out tools. Google offers a browser add-on that disables Google Analytics on every website you visit. Plausible and Umami do not need an opt-out because they do not set cookies or store identifiers.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Our strictly necessary cookies are unaffected by these browser signals because they are not used for tracking. Where the law requires us to honour a Global Privacy Control signal, we will treat it as an opt-out from analytics cookies that require consent.

8. Changes to this policy

We will update this page when we add, remove or change cookies, and update the "Last updated" date. Significant changes, such as enabling a new analytics tool that sets cookies, will be announced with a notice on the site.

9. Contact
